On one hand, there are people calling it the best anime series after Naruto’s and on the other hand, there are people giving it a low rating, expressing their disappointment. Then some are even confused, whether they should watch the series or not, since it has 200+ episodes, which can be time consuming. Well, lets dive deep into it, so by the end of this article you will know if you want to give it a shot or not.
“Boruto: Naruto next generations” is an anime television adaptation of a very popular Japanese Manga series having the same name. The manga is written by Ukyō Kodachi and Mashashi Kishimoto and illustrated by Mikio Ikemoto. The anime adaptation was announced at the Naruto and Boruto stage event at Jump Festa 2016. It was supervised by Kodachi and animated by Pierrot.
However, unlike the manga it is a prequel set before Boruto and his friends become ninjas. In the manga version, the focus is more on the protagonist but not in the anime.
The film “Boruto: Naruto the movie” was more like a retelling of the Manga, very similar to it.
The story revolves around the 7th Hokage Naruto Uzumaki’s son Boruto Uzumaki. Who is believed to have inculcated all the legendary traits and powers from his father including his heroic spirit. He loves his father as much as he loves his mother and sister.
Further in the story, he is seen to be very impressed by Sasuke, Naruto’s friend and wants to be trained by him. Unlike his father, he has a family, access to all the necessities and hasn’t seen a lot of hardships. He is known as the troublemaker but is also respected by his friends. However, let’s not forget that he is just a teenage boy who dreams of adventures and is determined to prove his worth to the world and to his family.
In the first episode itself, we can see how things will unfold in the future with Konoha village’s destruction. Boruto and Kawaki’s relationship is portrayed like that of Naruto and Sasuke when they had constant clashes. They both have something in common which is a mark similar to one another, known as ‘Karma’.
The story shows a slow progress and has a lot of fillers in the first few episodes. But the character build up in the anime is no less than a treat to watch as the story keeps improving with every episode.
Comparison with Naruto
Well, Naruto is one of the most loved anime series ever made and it would not be fair to compare the two. As they are two different series based on two different main characters. Naruto and Boruto have a relationship of father and son, but we must remember that they are two independent individuals who don’t belong to the same generation.
Naruto faced many hardships as a kid. He had no parents or friends and was bullied. Also, he got mocked by people quite often. He was constantly trying to prove himself to be better than others and faced a number of challenges while growing up. But Boruto on the other hand has parents and access to all the necessities. He never had to face anything alone because he had friends and family to take care of him.
However, it’s not easy to be a son of someone who is such a huge, recognized figure in the ninja world. He has a lot of pressure on him to prove his worth and show the world that he is no less than his father. Yes, he is a privileged son, but he still wants to do something in life and make his own identity other than being just his father’s son.
Everything, from their upbringing, struggles, perspective, lifestyle, and the respective surroundings they grew up in, is different. This is why comparing the two is not justified.
The anime fan pages show a huge difference in opinion from one another. Every fan has something different to say, which is very rare to see these days. Some say they are disappointed while some seem to have enjoyed the character build up and fresh arcs in the episodes.
It has more than 200 episodes and those who just watch 20 and quit won’t know what they missed. The ones who have watched the complete series claim it to be an amazing one and they suggest others to watch it as an independent anime series without any expectations. Expecting Boruto to be another Naruto is not fair as nowhere the writers claimed it to be Naruto 2.0. Writers always try and want to deliver different stories through various characters. Naruto fans can watch Naruto as the main character in the anime that is dedicated to him.
Boruto’s anime series can appear to be slow in the beginning, but it is important for the character build up. And as it progresses, the ones who have completed the series claim that it gets exciting.
Boruto is meant to appeal the new generation. He is bratty but compassionate. Helping others is a trait that fans have liked in his character. He is not all bad and he is not all good. His character is well balanced. As the name of the series suggest, he is the next generation Naruto, much more that him, a revised version maybe. It is good to watch Naruto and Sasuke help the young new children develop into fine ninjas.
Lastly, we can conclude by saying that this particular anime gives a chance to Naruto-lovers to follow his journey as a father and Hokage, and at the same time allowing fresh-new viewers to follow Boruto’s heroic adventures and a journey different from his father’s but still very like him.
